Pineapple farming

Pineapple is a herb of delicious fruit. Its fruits are narrow and cylindrical, from which the first apex leaves protruding leaves. The color of the fruit varies from green to yellow. The pineapple is completely covered with numerous protrusions.

In our areas, pineapple is usually grown as an ornamental plant and is the most commonly used variegatus pineapple cultivator with leaves lined with white. The fruits of such a pineapple are not edible.

When the pineapple plant is large enough and strong enough, it will release the first flowers from which the pineapple fruit will later develop. But you will have to be patient because it will take a long time to make it happen. Pineapple will also need plenty of light and sun to grow, a minimum of eight hours each day. The pineapple fruit is also slowly developing, so it will take some time to grow and be ripe for harvesting and eating.

Pineapple planting

Because it is a tropical plant, it grows best in Hawaii because of the exceptionally favorable climatic conditions for growth. It needs very high soil and air temperatures and high humidity, especially during growth and maturation. In addition, it will require a lot of compost and light. It uses a lot of space for growth, so if you are going to grow it in pots, make sure you give it plenty of space. One pineapple per square meter can be found on the plantations.

The cultivation of pineapple in pots begins in the same way as the cultivation of pineapple plantations, which is from the top shoots, or cuttings of the leafy apex of the fruit.

To grow a pineapple, it is necessary to grow the roots, and there are two methods for this. In the first method, it is recommended to cut off the top of the pineapple and place it in the pot into which you poured the water. After that, it is enough to leave the pineapple in the sun to release the roots. The second method is to cut the green tip first, right next to the pineapple itself. After that, peel off, peel off the lower layers of the green leaves until only the long leaves remain. The pineapple should now look like leeks. Put it in the water and wait for it to release its roots. This should happen from one week to two weeks.

Our recommendation is to try both methods to see which one is more effective. When you get a pineapple plant with roots, plant it in a large pot.

Because pineapple is a large plant with long leaves, it needs a lot of space. It is recommended to plant it immediately in a large container. Transplant the canines as needed in the spring months. If you want to plant a pineapple in your garden, be sure it is climate-friendly as it could be harmed by cold winters. If you cannot provide it, it will succeed well as a houseplant, only without large and numerous fruits.

It will take a long time for the pineapple to get its first fruits. The plant should first be strengthened and then transplanted into a larger container.


Before planting, lay a layer of pebbles at the bottom for best stability and drainage.

The land where you will plant the pineapple must be nutritionally rich. Enrich it with humus and fertilizer, in large quantities. Provide him with an air of desire as the root needs air to develop. Do not press and compact the soil around the plant.

Since the flowering of the plant is driven by ethylene, you can place the apples with the plant or ripen the apple bark on top of the substrate. By decomposing the crust, the earth will receive ethylene.

Soil temperature for quality growth should be 21 to 32 degrees.


Initially feed the pineapple every two weeks with a liquid fertilizer of the same NPK ratio. Keep the concentration twice as low as for other pots. During the colder period, feed it less frequently, once a month.

Later, it will need to be fertilized twice a year, in February and July. Use organic fertilizers.


After planting the pineapple until intensive leaf development begins, the pineapple should be kept half-dried. Subsequently, it is gradually exposed to light and direct sunlight. During the summer months, the plant should not be in direct sunlight as this can damage its leaves. In late winter and early spring, the plant will need several hours of direct sunshine to stimulate fruit development.

When growing pineapples, the temperature should not fall below 10 degrees Celsius, and temperatures between 18 and 29 degrees are optimal throughout the year.


Pineapples should be watered regularly in small quantities, but only when you notice that the soil has dried. For the plant to thrive, it needs high humidity, so be especially careful if you have it indoors.

Plantation maintenance

In spring, plant it in pots of cuttings, and in summer remove them.In the autumn, clean the plants for the winter, and in the winter, keep warm. Pineapple seed propagation is not possible.

Young plants that you plant in the summer will need transplanting in the spring into pots where you leave them to grow for a year and a half. Transplant them over the next spring and they will bear fruit in the summer or early fall. Transplant and remove excess shoots or wilted fruits each year. When grown well, the pineapple will bear fruit for five to ten years.

Healthy plants bear fruit after a year and a half. Collect them when you notice that they have a nice yellow or green color. It is good to pick it up before it ripens completely because of the way it will prolong its freshness.

At home, you can expect the first pineapple fruit in five years. There is a possibility that the fruit may develop earlier, in about two years, but this can only happen under ideal conditions. The fruit that develops indoors, like a houseplant, is small but of irresistible aroma and taste.

In the past, it was grown mostly in Central America, so during Columbus it was one of the interesting fruits that he also enjoyed eating. Pineapple was considered a very valuable exotic fruit and because of its fruits was often a center of admiration. By the end of the 16th century it had spread from America to China, the Philippines and Java. He soon became famous in West Africa. It was produced under the greenhouse in the 17th century in the Netherlands and exported to England from there. English nobles became crazy about these exotic fruits and have since graced their gardens.

Pineapple comosus (real pineapple) looks similar to yuccas and agave. As a fruit-bearing fruit, it is mostly grown in South America, or Mexico, where there are large pineapple plantations. It is grown there for commercial purposes. Similar plantations exist in tropical parts of Asia and Africa. Pineapple leaves are also used there to feed livestock.
