The body burns energy as a car burns fuel. Just as the accelerator pedal regulates how much fuel enters the car's engine, so does the thyroid gland regulate how fast the body burns the food.
The thyroid gland performs the task of regulating fuel supply, maintaining energy levels and regulating weight by secreting the hormones thyroxine and trio-thyronine. These hormones tell the body how fast it needs to burn calories.
With the right amount of thyroid hormone, your body will optimally burn food and have sufficient energy. You will also have a constant body temperature, your heart will be beating neatly, and you will also have a regular monthly cycle.
If your blood tests reveal that you have an underactive thyroid, your doctor will probably offer you a standard treatment for hypothyroidism: thyroxine. It may take your doctor several months to find the right dose.
If your doctor prescribes thyroxine, do not take it at the same time of day as iron-based dietary supplements or any minerals and vitamins containing iron. Iron, in fact, binds thyroxine and cannot be used by the body.
Goitrogens are substances that can reduce blood iodine intake, so you should avoid them. If your thyroid is not active enough, it will make the situation even worse. Raw cabbage, turnips, soybeans, peanuts and pine nuts are considered to be goitrogenic.
However, you won't have these problems cooking them so you don't have to avoid much. If you suffer from hypothyroidism, you can enjoy the benefits of these foods as soon as you cook them.
If your thyroid is not active enough, regular relaxation should be a key part of your lifestyle. Perform this relaxation exercise every day. It will only take a few minutes for you to spend more time. Sit comfortably in a quiet place where you will not be disturbed.
1. Close your eyes and inhale slowly and deeply several times. Let your thoughts take you wherever you want, but you need to feel calm, comfortable and relaxed. You can go somewhere you have been to, for example, a sandy beach or a flower field, or some imaginary place, such as a vicious forest.
2. Think of a place as authentic as possible. Use all the senses. Notice the environmental colors, close and distant sounds and smells. What's the air like? Is it warm and gentle in touch with your skin? Or is it cool and refreshing? Try to imagine the smallest detail until you are completely lost in that space as well.
If negative thoughts enter your space or something is interfering with you from outside, make them aware that they are obstructing you and let them pass. The interference does not belong here. Stay in your peaceful paradise for as long as you feel comfortable.
