Dehydration is a condition that occurs when one loses more fluid than they have ingested, thus impairing the balance of minerals within body fluids. It can be a big health problem and it is therefore good to know what the signs of dehydration are.
You have certainly heard many times why drinking lots of water and how much good it can do for each individual. Most adults bring about 2.4 liters of water into their body by drinking or eating.
If the body loses more water than it has received, as a result of the disease, whether it is vomiting or diarrhea and under the influence of drugs, dehydration can occur which can lead to shock but also death. The most vulnerable are the elderly and young children.
If dehydration occurs, it is important to seek medical attention as soon as possible, regardless of the cause. To be sure what is going on, you need to know what the signs of dehydration are. These are: paleness, white tongue, thick saliva and dry mouth. The affected person may become lethargic and urine production may be reduced.
If the patient is still conscious and able to communicate although difficult, they should give him a few sips of fruit juice, tea or water until a doctor arrives. Do not get alcohol because it also acts dehydrating.
If the cause of the dehydration is too high, the patient should be moved to a place where it is colder. High temperatures as well as too much stress on a person can cause the person to sweat. As with heat stroke, there is a loss of water and salt from the body, which should be compensated immediately.
Dehydration can also occur in children without complicating the situation, it is up to the parents to have healthy habits on time.
If vomiting and diarrhea develop and last longer than 24 hours, it can lead to dehydration in children and adults. In this case, consult a doctor. The situation of babies under six months of age can also be dangerous. In them, dehydration can occur after diarrhea or nausea if it lasts longer than 5 hours.
Regardless of what adults know they need to consume fluid frequently so that they do not dehydrate during diarrhea and vomiting, it can easily happen that they regain everything they have in the body. In this case, it will be necessary to go to the hospital to receive an infusion and thus compensate for all that they have lost in a few hours. It is important to always respond on time.
